Popis: | A method has been described for obtaining small amounts of muscle from patients. A system of analysis has been outlined by which values for water, sodium, potassium, chloride, and fat are all determined on the same portions of tissue. Its reliability has been assessed and it is concluded that values from the analysis of such small samples of tissue are equally reliable as those based on analysis of larger samples. Moreover, such a micro method does not lead to greater variability when multiple samples of tissue are analysed by its use. Drying tissue before extracting electrolytes is not a source of error. An indication has been presented of the variability obtaining when the method is used. The method is quick and composition can be specified within a matter of hours from taking the biopsy. |
