| Popis: | “Non-specific” granuloma of the paranasal sinuses and orbit in Northern Sudanese is shown to be the result of infection by aspergillus. In 6 cases studied the diagnosis was readily made from biopsy sections stained by the periodic-acid Schiff and Grocott methenamine-silver methods. Confirmation was obtained on 2 occasions by the isolation of Aspergillus flavus in culture.Infection appears to follow pre-existing nasal disease since aspergilli were found in the nasal passages of Northern Sudanese who were clinically normal. Surgical removal of the granulomatous masses followed by wide drainage gave good results. |
