Popis: The chapter performs a reading through the lenses of identity and border studies, focusing on Kapka Kassabova’s writings in comparison with works by other female Balkan diaspora writers (Julia Kristeva, who resettled in Paris in the late 1960s, and Dubravka Ugrešić, who was forced to immigrate to Western Europe during the Yugoslav war). Hashamova calls attention to the Balkan authors’ transgressions of identities and borders and traversing fantasies about Western cultural dominance. The works of these writers, in Hashamova’s interpretation, open space for imagining the coexistence and fullness of multilingualism and dialogism without aggression, a space that can embrace otherness and difference.
