Popis:	Although the study of vernacular buildings has passed its infancy and gained respectability, the social implications of much of the evidence presented has received little study. A classic instance of this is the hearth, about which little has been written, although it is both the physical and social centre of a dwelling. This paper attempts to trace the broad outlines of the architectural development of the hearth in Wales, with some reference to the social implications of the various developments.
