We describe the performance of an extensive air shower array sited at the geographic South Pole from its construction in 1987 to the austral summer of 1991. The stability of the array over this four year period when the detectors were subjected to temperature cycling over a 60 °C range is evaluated. The analysis techniques used to determine the core position and direction of the shower are discussed, along with checks on the angular resolution and pointing accuracy of the array, found to be 0.9° and 0.2°±0.5° respectively |
