LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) can be obtained by directmeasurement or calculation from other, measured parameters, most commonly total cholesterol (TC), HDLcholesterol (HDL-C) and triglycerides (TAG). If the subjectof the comparison of two LDL-C methods, referencemeasurement procedure and candidate measurementprocedure, is the comparison of two calculated methods, this comparison can be performed not on quantitiesobtained from real patients, but on an artificially createdsynthetic data set with such compiled parameters thatmeet both the criterion of reality and ideal mathematical-statistical criteria. In this methodical study we describe the method ofcreating an synthetic data set composed of TC, HDL-Cand TAG with the required parameters. We point outthe differences between real files and the artificial file, and finally we compare several methods for determiningLDL-C on an artificial file with Martin equation as referencewith Sampson equation, Friedewald equation and Cordova equation. |
