| Popis: | The aim of this article is an epigraphic and contextual study of inscribed Attic pottery fragments retrieved during the Swiss-German excavations at Palaepaphos (directed by Fr.G. Maier). The inscriptions are either in the Cypriot syllabary or in the Greek alphabet. The contextual distribution of most fragments argues for a domestic use of these vessels. In most cases it is impossible to determine the exact type of the pot judging from the remaining fragments. The content of the inscriptions is hardly understandable, but the small corpus under study can be compared to other inscriptions on Cypriot pottery. Such a comparative study helps to apprehend the significance of graffiti incised onto Attic ceramic from Palaepaphos. |
