Popis: | Reflection of incident pressure and flow waves will occur at any discontinuity present in an elastic tube. This paper investigates the magnitude of the reflected waves produced by abrupt changes in the tube diameter and wall elasticity. The effect of these reflections on the proximal and distal pressure and flow waves is demonstrated together with the resultant effects on the hydraulic impedance. Experimental values of reflection coefficient are calculated from the impedance data and compared with those obtained from a theoretical model. The diagnostic significance of these findings is discussed. |
