Popis: | A woman in her 20s developed streptococcal peritonitis 5 weeks after staging splenectomy for Hodgkins disease and 2 months after IUD insertion. The case history is detailed in the article. The IUD probably caused the infection. Streptococcus Group A type 43 was cultured from cervix peritoneal cavity fallopian tube and blood. It is thought low-grade endometrial infections occur often within a few weeks after IUD insertion. Caution should thus be exercised in recommending an IUD for a patient with lymphoid disease recent radiotherapy and a recent splenectomy. |
