Popis: | 1.1. The rate of S 35 uptake by the human cervix in vitro was measured as an indication of the chondroitin sulfate synthesis in the ground substance of this tissue. 2.2. Rates of S 35 uptake were high in specimens removed during the proliferative phase of the normal menstrual cycle. 3.3. Rates of S 35 uptake were low during the secretory phase of the cycle in an inverse relationship to presumed progesterone production by the corpus luteum. 4.4. Some estrogen secretion was necessary for elevated S 35 uptake. Low uptake rates were observed in specimens from patients with atrophic endometria. 5.5. Similarities between these findings and studies by others on cervical dilatation and effacement during the normal menstrual cycle are discussed. |
