Popis: | The paper complements current attempts to use simulation techniques to interpret some clinical observations on the growth of malignant tumours. A hundred cells arranged in a 10×10 matrix were studied by means of a digital computer (ICL 2956/20). Two different types of cells are assumed to grow in competition in accordance with the basic cytokinetic principles. Each species has its own lifespan which can be controlled on demand. The spatial configuration of the cells is predetermined. Two types of cellular distribution were studied and the results have shown that, first; the ratio of the lifespans of the normal to malignant cells (τ=Tn/Tm) plays a critical role in the probable spread or regression of one species over the other; secondly; regardless of the initial configuration of the tumours the spread of these cells with time leads to the creation of isolated colonies all through the cell matrix. |
