Popis: | The radioactive aerosol resulting from the low power critical operation of light water moderated experimental reactors has been studied. This phenomenon has been found in conjunction with plastic and unclad fuel elements. The activity found is attributed to several of the decay daughters of the noble gas fission products. It is characterized by an effective half-life of about 25 min and is interpreted to be of low toxicity. The authors suggest the use of exhaust ventilation or respirators when entering the critical assembly rooms after certain operations to keep the exposure to a minimum. (auth) |
