Popis: The view is nowadays increasingly being held that neurons and glial cells form functionally and metabolically interconnected neuron-glial (N'G) complexes, which are the elementary integrative units of the brain [5, 6]. However, considering ~he many functional differences between glial cells and neurons [2, 5] it is to be expected that glial and neuronal components of N-G complexes play different roles, especially in the realization of different forms and stages of memory. It was in fact shown previously that whereas the efficacy of shortterm memory is reduced equally by a lesion of the glia and by a lesion of the neurons, the processes of consolidation of engrams of long-term memory are severely affected only by a lesion of the glial components of N-G complexes [4]. These experiments, however, did not answer the question of how processes of storage and recall of consolidated skills depends on the activity of each component of the N-G complexes; hence the need for the experiments described below.
