This experiment builds on a series of earlier studies in which we documented dramatic variations in levels of altruistic behavior, using between subjects designs. In this experiment we use a large scale within subjects design to better identify particular types of agent, to disentangle several mechanisms that might underlie the earlier behavior, and to assess whether the effects are robust in a within subjects setting, where subjects will be more aware of potential inconsistencies between decisions. In particular, we examine the roles of: - compassion fade - proportion dominance - moral wiggle room - information avoidance - inequality aversion |
