Popis: | Recent advances in embryonic stem cell (ES) technology have made it possible to introduce mutations into the mouse genome by homologous recombination and thereby selectively generate mutant mice. Genetically manipulated mutant mice have contributed enormously to our understanding of the molecular functions of isolated genes and the mechanisms of cell growth and differentiation, as well as increasing our understanding of diseases such as cancer. Here, we will briefly summarise the recent advances in gene-targeting studies with particular emphasis on growth factors and their receptors, oncogenes, tumour-suppressor genes and developmental control genes. |
