Popis: | The treatment of hypercholesterolaemia with an anion exchange resin, Secholex ® , given alone or in combination with clofibrate for one year, produced sustained mean decreases in serum cholesterol of 20 % and 32 % respectively. Taurine had no potentiating effect on the action of the drugs. Secholex alone reduced low density lipoproteins. Clofibrate alone reduced very low density lipoproteins and chylomicrons. The combination_ of both drugs gave a greater decrease in low density lipoproteins, and a reduction in very low density lipoproteins and chylomicrons. It is concluded that Secholex alone is of value in the treatment of moderately affected type IIa, clofibrate alone in type IV, and the combination of both drugs in severely affected type IIa and in type IIb hyperlipoproteinaemia. |
