The purpose of this study is to examine children museum workshops as learning environments. This study was conducted through the use of case study qualitative research methods. The study group consisted of a total of 7 museums in Ankara which have children workshops. A semi-structured observation form, developed by the researchers, was used as a data collection tool in the workshop environments. In addition to this, semi-structured interviews were held with museum and / or workshop educators. According to analysis of the data obtained from observations and interviews, it was found that, in terms of physical environmental conditions, workshop environments were generally sufficient. However, it has been observed that the arrangements to ensure the participation of individuals with special needs in workshop environments are inadequate. That said, equipment such as tables, chairs etc. were found to be generally adequate in workshop environments, and in terms of technological equipment, almost all workshops were found to have appropriate resources. In terms of expendable materials, such as different colored, textured and sized papers, brushes, crayons, open ended materials etc., the materials used in the workshops vary, but their developmental appropriateness is questionable. It was seen that 4 of the museum workshops have educational programs, and 5 of them have workshop educators. It was seen that the workshop environments have suitable equipments in terms of accessibility. |
