Popis: | CASE SUMMARY History A 7-year-old Caucasian boy presented to his pediatrician with breast enlargement. Physical examination revealed bilateral, symmetric, nontender gynecomastia. The pediatrician initially attributed the gynecomastia to early puberty and no further workup was done. When the boy was 8 years old, the pediatrician noted that the gynecomastia had increased. Testicular enlargement was also noted at this time, an endocrine work-up was initiated, and the patient was referred for further evaluation to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The patient had a history of spotty pigmentation on his lower lip that had been present since 3 years of age. The patient’s medical history was also significant for attention deficit disorder, diagnosed when he was 2 years old; it was controlled with amphetamine/ dextroamphetamine. There was no family history of intestinal polyps or mucosal lentigines. |
