Three available root canal sealers were investigated and compared for tissue tolerance, antimicrobial activity, tensile strength, permeability, and clinical use. The Kerr sealer, the new Grossman sealer, and Diaket were tolerated equally well by the soft tissues of the rabbit. All three compounds possessed antimicrobial activity against the ten micro-organisms studied. The new Grossman sealer and Diaket were somewhat more active in this respect than the Kerr sealer. The Diaket was superior to the other sealers for its tensile strength and resistance to permeability. The Kerr sealer has stood the test of time, as far as clinical use is concerned. The other two compounds are equally well accepted by the human periapical tissues, however, and have other more desirable properties. |
