Two women who had known Hashimoto's thyroiditis developed large neck masses, which proved to be primary thyroid lymphomas. The occurrence of thyroid lymphomas with a background of automimmune disease was noted, as well as the possible origin of these tumors from mucosa associated lymphoid tissue. The thyroid lymphomas presented as cold defects on Tc-99m pertechnetate imaging and as areas of increased uptake on Ga-67 citrate scans. |
