Popis: | Metaheuristics are high-level problem-independent optimization frameworks that present a exible way to solve large and complicated optimization problems. In this chapter, we provide an overview of this research eld and argue that metaheuristics are the most suitable optimization methods currently available to solve multi-modal hazmat transportation optimization problems. Not only the size and complexity of (real-life instances) of such problems warrant the use of metaheuristics, the fact that these problems usually combine several levels of decision-making and have more than one objective, strengthen the need for powerful optimization tools. We present a literature survey on the use of metaheuristics for multi-modal and for hazmat transportation optimization and point out some interesting directions for future research. |
