Popis: | Transurethral laser prostatectomy with a holmium: YAG (Ho: YAG) laser was performed in 96 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This surgical technique is called holmium laser resection of the prostate (HoLRP). and creates a cavity in the prostatic urethra comparable to that achieved with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). With HoLRP, subjective and objective symptoms are improved from an early stage after the procedure, and an additional advantage is that HoLRP causes no. or minimal. bleeding. Prostatic tissue was laser-resected with a standard 550µm bare fiber guided through a modified resectoscope. Laser irradiation parameters were between 60 and 81 W average power. Postoperative clinical results were assessed by international prostate symptom score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL), and maximum flow rate (Q max). All these criteria showed a statistically significant improvement at 1 week after surgery, and these improvements lasted for 24 months postoperatively. The operating time for HoLRP is longer than that of TURP, but with HoLRP the volume of bleeding during the procedure is much smaller and the catheterization time of the Foley catheter is shorter. No serious complications caused by the technique were experienced during or after the operation. |
