| Popis: | Family Artemiidae Grochowski, 1895 Artemia franciscana Kellog, 1906. In older literature, only Artemia salina (Linnaeus, 1758) is mentioned as this was considered a cosmopolitan species. Today, we know more existing Artemia species (Assem et al. 2010). In Bonaire, A. franciscana Kellog, 1906 is present (Van Stappen 1996; Camargo et al. 2002).All observations in the Dutch Caribbean of A. salina probably belong to A. franciscana. Wagenaar Hummelinck (1933) found this species in Bonaire (Goto-meer, Salinja Martinus, Pekelmeer, and Salinja Plenchi). Rammner (1936) reported this species for Bonaire, Cura��ao, and St Maarten. In the period of 1960���1964, several salt pans were sampled in Bonaire and Cura��ao to investigate the ecology of this species (Kristensen & Hulscher-Emeis 1972). Vanhaecke et al. (1987) found it on St Maarten, Aruba, Bonaire (Duinmeer, Gotomeer, Pekelmeer, Martinus, and Slagbaai), and Cura��ao (Fuik and Rifwater). Van Stappen (1996) reported Artemia spec. for St Maarten, Aruba, Bonaire, and Cura��ao; only mentioning A. franciscana for Duinmeer on Bonaire. The hypersaline habitat in Rif-Sint Marie on Cura��ao is threatened by the supply of sea water causing the lake to become less saline (Vermeij & Chamberland 2012).
