Popis: This dialogue explores the use of science fiction and other arts methodologies within interdisciplinary applied contexts, emphasising in particular ocean governance and the Radical Ocean Futures Project. High seas governance is challenging for a number of reasons, and the uncertainties and value judgments involved benefit from speculative narrative approaches alongside the use of models and traditional risk management frameworks. Such approaches may for example improve the interface between scientists and policymakers with regard to the inclusion of uncertainty information, which can improve decision-making when properly understood, but also create the risk that scientific findings are not given adequate weight by policymakers. The dominant science fiction canon in the 20th century had an Anglophone and Global North bias, although this is beginning to change with the flourishing of Africanfuturism and other regional futurisms, which also hold promise for the use of narrative approaches in more participatory decision-making around the stewardship of nature.
