Awareness of the poisonous plants growing in a given area and those that are likely to appear in hay and their associated clinical signs can be instrumental in making diagnoses. More importantly, the information can be shared with clients to help prevent plant poisonings in horses. This article offers a discussion of the geographical distributions, descriptions, toxic agents, mechanisms, clinical signs, prognoses, and necropsy findings for poisonous plants affecting equine practice. |
