Popis: | A young female presenting with lymphoblastic leukaemia was found to have an abnormal genotype due to a reciprocal translocation between chromosomes B and D. The father and twin sisters of the propositus were also found to possess the trans-location. Neither the propositus nor the other members of the family possessing the abnormal karyotype showed any phenotypic abnormality. Giemsa banding identified the chromosomes involved in the translocation as B4 and D14. Additional chromosome abnormalities were present in the leukaemic cells and these disappeared with therapy and reappeared in relapse. It is suggested that genotypic reciprocal translocation may be yet another cytogenetic abnormality associated with a special tendency to the development of acute leukaemia. |
