Popis: | Summary and Conclusions A reliable and consistently reproducible method for testing the therapeutic activity of drugs against Br. abortus infection in the 7 day chick embryo is described. Using this method, streptomycin, sulfadiazine and combinations of the two drugs were tested. The results with a water soluble, chemical combination of streptomycin and sulfadiazine (Commercial Solvents S.D.-2) are reported. Combination therapy with streptomycin and sulfadiazine is superior to either drug used alone. The effectiveness of combined therapy against Br. abortus in the chick embryo is due to a streptomycin-sulfadiazine potentiation, rather than merely to an additive effect of the two drugs. |
