Popis: | PERFORATION of the gastrointestinal tract in the newborn infant is a major catastrophe that causes death in over three fourths of the babies, despite the availability of modern diagnostic and therapeutic technics in institutions designed to care for sick infants.1 We were therefore chagrined to find that 10 of the 76 intestinal perforations treated at the Columbus Children's Hospital during the past fifteen years were accidentally caused. Three of these infants died as a result of complications arising from the associated peritonitis.
