Palavras - chave: Climatologia, impacto ambiental, soja, variabilidade interanual Impact of Soybean Planting and Equatorial Pacific Ocean Temperature and Precipitation in the City of Chapadinha-MA ABSTRACT The State of Maranhao has an economy facing agriculture encompassing relevant activities such as cattle and rice cultivation. Recently there were major changes in agricultural production system by introducing soy replacing grassland areas. This paper presents an analysis of climate variability in the region of MA Chapadinha using monthly data of precipitation and maximum and minimum temperatures. In quantifying the impact of soy on rainfall variability, the analyzes were concentrated in the period from 1977 to 2009. The technique of analysis of variance and t-Student test were used as the main statistical tools for data analysis. The results show that changes in land use and cover affected the local climate. The major changes were observed in the minimum temperature. Keywords: Climatology, environmental impact, soybeans, interannual variability |
