For centuries, Cuba was a key point on the trade routes between America and Europe. Along with other goods, mummies came to this part of the Caribbean. Cuba's tropical and humid climate is an impediment to both natural mummification and conservation of previously mummified remains. Despite this, there are some intact mummies from different periods and cultures in the island. Each one of them has an interesting story that, “The Cuban Mummy Project”, an international and multidisciplinary project, has as its main objective to reveal the individual information of each one of the mummies, both historically and scientifically. |
