The two North American species currently placed in Dolichosoma Stephens, namely D. foveicolle (Kirby, 1837) (widespread in North America) and D. tenuiforme Horn, 1880 (“Texas”), were critically examined. After investigation of type specimens and comparison with Palearctic members of Dolichosoma and Psilothrix Kuster, D. foveicolle is transferred to the latter genus as Psilothrix foveicollis (Kirby, 1837), new combination, and D. tenuiforme is considered to be based on a mislabeled specimen of D. lineare (Rossi, 1794) and becomes a new junior synonym of that species. Consequently, the genus Dolichosoma is not represented in the North American fauna, and Psilothrix is recognized as the only truly Holarctic genus of Dasytinae. |
