Popis: Street children’s social media profiles and posts reveal their understanding of Facebook affordances, comprising risk and opportunity. A study of these children’s profiles and content indicates that they share information to an intended audience by tagging them in particular Facebook posts to raise concern, empathy, and solidarity to improve their offline conditions. Furthermore, these posts allow an enlargement of their online connection with other street and non-street people. Whether and how such social network enlargement impacts the lives of street children needs further research, but this chapter addresses ways in which social media helps shape street children’s digital identity.
