This paper analyzes the patterns of bilateral trade flows of auto components over the last decade by applying network analysis. Results show the rise of a number of emerging economies – in Asia and Central and Eastern Europe – as important parts suppliers, but their role is still largely peripheral. In fact, there was a strengthening of the World’s leading producers, with a more hierarchical Division of labor within their regions, especially in Europe. Regionalization of production declined in all of the groups of auto parts examined, with the exception of electrical parts, where a regional production network is emerging in Asia. |
