The study was conducted in all the six taluks of the Davanagere district to know the communication skills and extent of participation in the extension programmes. In all 144 beneficiaries from 24 villages were randomly selected for the study. The data was collected using structured schedule through personal interview method. The results reveals that majority of the beneficiaries (40.97%) often consulted family members regarding NHM and other agricultural related matters followed by 34.72 per cent equally consulted neighbours most often and often, 38.19 per cent most oftenly consulted friends and relatives, 56.25 per cent sometimes consulted fellow NHM beneficiaries. The mass media consulted by the NHM beneficiariesreveals great majority (86.81 %) were regularly listening to radio followed by 93.06 per cent never watched agriculture programmes in television, 80.56 per cent read information related to agriculture in news paper regularly99.31 per cent regularly read information related to agriculture in farm magazines. The extension contact reveals that Agriculture Assistants were consulted by 42.82 and ranked 1 followed by 36.11 per cent Assistant Agriculture Officer, 30.09 per cent Veterinary Officer, 28.70 per cent Agriculture Officer, 22.69 per cent Horticulture Assistant, 17.36 per cent Assistant Director of Agriculture and Assistant Horticulture Officer. The communication skills and extent of participation of beneficiaries in extension programmes play important role in the technology adoption by the beneficiaries. |
