Popis: | International audience; Because the structuro-global audio-visual method (SGAV) (1960-1980) gives priority to oral skills and especially to mastering pronunciation, it has been criticized for not giving enough relevance to teaching how to read and write. The main criticisms were the following: with the SGAV method, written text is the same as written form (orthography), written code specificities are not taken into account, and reading means reading aloud and linearly. In order to confirm if these criticisms are justified, this article analyses several French teaching handbooks: two SGAV handbooks and two other handbooks which are dedicated to learning how to write and which were published in the 1970’s. It shows an evolution between several handbooks, and even between different editions of the same handbook: although the teaching of written skills remains differed, the handbooks give increasing importance to it. The comparison of the two handbooks dedicated to written expression also highlights the methodological approaches each one of them has adopted. |
