Background: Nonadherence to medication remains a challenge in the treatment of schizophrenia. Next to poor insight into the illness, adverse effects of antipsychotic drugs, cognitive deficits, poor therapeutic alliance, poor quality of life, missing social support, and negative attitudes toward medication are known to be strongly correlated with nonadherence. This study examines potential correlations between attitudes toward medication, subjective well-being under antipsychotic treatment, and symptomatology during the initial treatment period. |
