Popis: Alkaline phosphatase activity was measured in the tibias of normal and scorbutic guinea pigs. After twenty six days on a scorbutogenic diet the activity in the scorbutic had a mean value of 4.16 mg P/gm/hour in comparison to 8.04 mg P/gm/hour for the control group. Histochemical study of sections of the bones after demineralization revealed a decrease in the black precipitate indicative of phosphatase activity in the scorbutic bones. The decrease in precipitate was especially striking in the epiphyseal plate and in the metaphysis.
