Popis: | 267 15-45 year old Protestant which nonfarm women were studied for 1 year in Fayette County Kentucky to assess family structures and decision making regarding contraceptive usage and the role of the male in decision making. A 17-item Likert-type scale was constructed using questions designed to measure togetherness/separateness with regard to family activities and decisions. Despite the nearly equal percentages currently using contraception with medically approved methods segregated couples have been less effective at birth control than those who shared a more joint conjugal relationship. The implication is that regardless of how medically sound a contraceptive technique may be in the absence of an effective family structure for using the technique contraceptive failure will continue and particular methods must be fitted to the needs of particular couples. |
