Popis: | Documents generated by a 1751 property dispute in Stirling throw new light on two problems which have long perplexed historians of Scots urban architecture. What was the form and function of the wooden frontages applied to stone houses in the late medieval and early modern period? And how do these structures relate to the ways in which streets were progressively narrowed by advancing frontages? This paper outlines the problems, presents the new evidence and discusses the issues raised. |
