Popis: | The literature reporting on aspects of ego functioning and psychopathology among narcotics and polydrug dependent individuals is reviewed. Data are presented which indicate impairment in ego functioning and evidence of considerable psychopathology in three groups of drug-dependent individuals entering an inpatient detoxification/treatment unit. The data support the view that drug misuse of any sort does not result in a homogeneous group. The Psychiatric Status Schedule of Spitzer and Endicott was the instrument used in gathering the data. Recommendations for discriminate thinking in diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning for any drug-dependent individuals are made. |
