According to Barrows and Tamblyn (1980), the possible teaching-learning methods in medicine can be categorized in two ways. First, how is the content organized? In this regard, instruction can be categorized as subject-based or problem-based. Second, who decides what is to be learned? In this regard, instruction can be categorized as teacher-centered or student-centered. The most traditional combination is subject-based, teacher-centered. The purpose of this article is to encourage the use of a problem-based, student-centered (PBSC) approach in gerontology and geriatrics education in the classroom. |
