Popis: | A nationwide network of Geriatric Education Centers (GECs) has been developed between 1983 and 1987. At the end of 1987, the Public Health Service was providing grant support to 31 such projects in 24 states and Puerto Rico. The structure, organization and programs of individual GECs vary greatly in response to area conditions and needs. Their efforts vary greatly in response to area conditions and needs. Their efforts may be broadly classified into four major categories: faculty development, continuing education, curriculum development and resource sharing, and evaluation. Examples of these four types of activities illustrate their general nature and substantial diversity. Multidisciplinary approaches are emphasized by all the GECs. Many different health professional schools and community agencies are actively involved in the development of these regional resources.
