Popis: | Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated endonuclease (Cas)-based genome editing provides a highly versatile genome editing tool that can be applied across many crop species to improve agronomically important traits. It is also emerging as a tool to fulfill a major need in crop breeding: a targeted approach for generating novel genetic variation. Here we provide an overview of the application of genome editing in one of the most important staple crops, wheat, and discuss its future use in generating favorable alleles and improve genetic diversity. |
