Popis: | A major problem with impedance pneumography is the artefact on the respiratory waveform caused by the beating of the heart. Three filters are described for reducing the amplitude of this artefact; (i) signal averaging, (ii) analogue filtering, and (iii) digital filtering. A comparison of the three filters suggested that the digital filter was most appropriate for use with a computerised data analysis system. The digital filter gave a 7dB reduction in the amplitude of the artefact. The number of breaths correctly detected by the computerised data analysis system from the respiratory waveform was slightly greater than the number of breaths correctly detected from the unfiltered respiratory waveform. The small improvement in the number of breaths correctly detected did not justify the inclusion of the filter in the automatic data analysis system. |
