Popis: | SUMMARY The role of aerosol transmission in feline calicivirus infections was investigated. Susceptible animals remained free from disease when kept in the same air space as acutely infected cats, provided that fomite transmission of the infectious agent was prevented. Neither acutely nor persistently infected cats were found to excrete detectable amounts of virus as an aerosol, although in artificial aerosol suspensions feline calicivirus was found to survive moderately well. It is postulated that during the normal respiratory movements of the cat no infections aerosol of feline calicivirus is produced and the aerosol transmission plays little part in the epidemiology of the disease. |
