Popis: During the 1950s there was no shortage of opportunities for physicists to work in employment for which their training at university was entirely relevant. This was the age when it was believed that the 'spin-off' from fundamental research would be sufficient to justify the expensive research laboratories being set up by most large industrial concerns, the newly founded Atomic Energy Authority and the Central Electricity Generating Board.
