Popis: | reat news has been sounded over the Ghealth care airwaves: overall, rates of mortality from coronary heart disease in the United States have declined, as is apparent in the 68% decrease in age-adjusted mortality rates for men and women from 1979 to 2011 (Wilmot, O’Flaherty, Capewell, Ford, & Vaccarino, 2015). The greatest decline was in men and women older than 65 years, and the least decline was in women younger than 55 years (Mozaffarian et al., 2015; Wilmot et al., 2015). Wilmot et al. (2015) found that for young women, there was essentially no improvement in rates between 1990 and 1999 and only a 1% estimated annual percentage change since 2000. When these rates were stratified by race, similar trends were found for Black men and women—that is, flattened trends in mortality in the age group younger than 55 years and more marked improvements in older age groups (Wilmot et al., 2015). |
