Behavior documentation plays an important role in making a wildlife conservation plan. Among the mammals of India, Wild Boar is very common and plays a significant role in ecological balance. Their population is declining in many forest areas of the country due to a number of threats that they face, one of them is lack of food plants. Therefore, a study was carried out to enumerate the food plants of Wild Boar through direct and indirect evidences in selected forest areas of Odisha state. Results revealed that they mostly consume root, rhizome, corm and tubers of many plant species. As Wild Boar is the primary or secondary prey of many carnivorous, it is essential to balance their population for a healthy forest. The present study provides a baseline data for the restoration of Wild Boar in a suitable landscape which will be useful in the management of wildlife and ecological balance through the stable food chain. |
