Popis: | acteristic inflammatory response in the anterior small intestine (Larsh and Race, 1954). Immunity also has been reported in mice given prior infections with larvae irradiated with dosages ranging from 1750 r to 7000 r (Kim, 1957). It is of particular interest that a demonstrable immunity was evident in those given larvae irradiated with 5250 r and 7000 r since these dosages prevented development beyond the pre-adult stage. These results, and those of Campbell (1955), show that this stage plays a role in stimulating the total immunity of the mouse host. It seemed of value, therefore, to determine, by using larvae irradiated with 7000 r, whether or not the immunity produced by the pre-adults alone, as in the case following normal infections, is associated with serum antibodies and a characteristic inflammatory response in the anterior small intestine. This was the purpose of the present experiment. |
