In this article, I aim to make a contribution to ongoing conversations regarding sustaining and advancing public philosophy within and beyond the academy. I frame institutional challenges faced by public philosophers in terms of the two lives problem, the disjunctive experience of balancing both traditional requirements for employment and advancement in professional philosophy with the intensive work required by many public philosophy projects. In response, I outline three strategies for supporting public philosophy: collaboration, reframing evaluation, and advocacy. |
